FIU Law Team Places 5th at International Moot Competition in Frankfurt, Germany

(Frankfurt, Germany) On Saturday, October 24, 2009 FIU Law students Christopher Kokoruda, Brittney Keck and Adam Gutin proudly represented FIU in the 2009 Skadden, Arps Foreign Direct Investment Moot hosted by the Deutsche Institution for Schiedgerichtsbarkeit (DIS) at the FIAC-IHK in Frankfurt, Germany. After several months of very hard work that included many summer days and weekends, their memorial (claimant’s brief) got the second highest score in the competition. Overall, FIU placed 5th out of 19 teams from all over the world that included other U.S. schools such as NYU, Pepperdine, Georgetown, Hamline, and Suffolk. Pepperdine University Law School prevailed over St Petersburg State University to win the moot. The other semi-finalists were Kings College London and the University of Belgrade.

This was the first time that our school participated in an Investment Arbitration Competition, which required not only a high level of commitment but also excellent research and reasoning abilities. Professors Troy Elder and Manuel Gomez served as the team's coachs.

The 2009 FDI Moot was hosted by the Deutsche Institution for Schiedgerichtsbarkeit (DIS) at the FIAC-IHK in Frankfurt, Germany and organized by the Center for International Legal Studies.
